SQUARE DANCE!
The Tallboys
Dram County with Amy Hofer
Knuckle Knockers
Callers: Evie Ladin, Michael Ismerio, Caroline Oakley
Early portion of dance will be geared towards families and less experienced dancers.
About the callers:
Evie Ladin calls at rowdy community square dances, performs with the Stairwell Sisters and Crosspulse, and teaches percussive dance and banjo (on the rare occasions when you can find her at home.) She is the driving force behind the Bay Area’s budding square dance community. Michael Ismerio and Caroline Oakley both hail from Portland, Oregon, where they both have been instrumental in building the most vibrant square dance scene in the U.S. Michael is a fiddler, square dance caller, community organizer, zine publisher, urban farmer and a tireless wanderer. He was a member of the Government Issue Orchestra, and the Dickel Brothers, as well as co-founder of the Portland Gathering. Originally from South Carolina, Caroline was also a member of GIO, and now calls square dances at farmers markets, hoedowns and festivals and plays fiddle and guitar in a duet with Pete Leone.

About the Tallboys:
The Tallboys are Joe Fulton (fiddle), Charlie Beck (clawhammer and three-finger style banjo), John Hurd (bass) and Charmaine Slaven (guitar and clogging). Since joining forces in 2003, they’ve become major players in Seattle’s old time music scene, hosting a m onthly square dance and jam at Seattle’s Tractor Tavern. . The Tallboys are true to their traditional inspirations, while charging up their sound with a raw edge of gritty enthusiasm conjured from their years as street performers. Charmaine Slaven is an exceptionally musical clog dancer, and manages somehow to play solid rhythm guitar and clog simultaneously!

The Knuckle Knockers
Hailing from hayseed Bernal Heights in San Francisco, the Knuckle Knockers stoke the fires of the vintage American music tradition, playing fiddles, mandolin, guitar, and 5 string banjo and singing songs of death, fire and brimstone. For the BOTMC square dance, Bill Foss, Martha Hawthorne and Karen Heil will go knuckle to knuckle on lightning dance tunes, and be joined by two of Portland's finest Old-Time players, Maggie Brunjes on banjo, and Patrick Lind playing his famously notable washtub bass.
