Rafe Stefanini, master fiddler & banjo player from Philadelphia, will be in town this weekend, and
is doing a number of events:

* Sat May 5 7pm-11pm - square dance in Oakland 
* Sun May 6 7pm - house concert in Oakland
* Mon May 7 6:30pm-8:30pm - fiddle workshop in Berkeley
* Wed May 9 7:30pm - house concert in Santa Cruz

OLD TIME FIDDLE, BANJO, GUITAR AND SONG
Master of old-time fiddle, banjo and guitar will perform some of his
vast repertoire of songs and tunes from the Appalachian mountains and

Monday May 6:30 to 8:30pm Fiddle Workshop

Rafe Stefanini will be giving an oldtime fiddle workshop on Monday, May 
7, in Berkeley near College & Ashby).  
The cost is $30.  If you would like to sign up, please send me an email 
to Suzy Thompson suzy at ericandsuzy.coma..  After the  workshop, we'll 
socialize and play tunes.  Please bring a good to share, if you like.

Workshop size is limited so please sign up in advance. 

Here is Rafe's description and bio:

  This workshop is intended for fiddle players of intermediate/advanced 
level. The teaching will be hands on, by ear and without written music. 
However, a recording device and a tuner are strongly recommended.
  I stress the need for the students to listen before playing along.
Everyone learns at a different speed so I invite the students to join 
in the playing as they feel comfortable and ready. Then I am going to 
repeat the tune, or parts of it, for as long as it takes for everyone 
to capture the core of it. Then I can break down sections in detail and 
answer questions about specifics.  I find that this way most people are 
able to learn a tune in about

Rafe Stefanini has played and taught fiddle for 27 years, and has 
established himself as one of the most accomplished interpreters of 
Southern Old Time fiddle styles of his generation.  His work with The 
Wildcats, The L7s, Big Hoedown and The Rockinghams is showcased in many 
critically acclaimed recordings.  He is currently performing solo and 
with The Grey Eagles.
