[Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention]

The festival is coming right up, Sept 13-16!  Check
out our website, berkeleyoldtimemusic.org, for all the
festival info.  This event would not happen without
our excellent volunteers, and it's time to round up
this year's crew... if this is you, read on!

I do this every year because I want to make sure that
the festival is accessible to all, regardless of
funds.  Please help me spread the word by forwarding
this email to others who might be interested in
getting involved!

The fine print: 

New this year -- volunteer orientation!  We'll get
together on Sunday Sept 9 from 11-1 for a quick
meeting about what the heck we're doing, followed by
tunes.   Refreshments will be served!  Fun will be
had!  All are encouraged to attend, including
returning volunteers, but you don't have to come in
order to volunteer.  

How the work-trade works: if you volunteer for one of
the paid events, that is your comp.  If you volunteer
for a free event, we'll comp you into either of the
concerts at the Freight, or the dance at Ashkenaz on
Saturday night.  We can't give you a comp to a
workshop.

To volunteer, please send an email to me, Amy, at
hoferamy at yahoo.com.  It should contain your name,
email, phone number, first choice of job, any other
jobs you'd be willing to do if that one's taken, which
night you'd like your comp for, and whether you'll be
at the orientation.  Please include all of this
information!

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

At the Freight Thursday and Friday nights: We need
people to sell band merchandise and collect email
addresses for the BOTMC mailing list, and people to
help our food coordinator clean up from feeding the
band.

Please note -- the Freight will only take "their"
volunteers to be hand-stampers.  So please contact the
Freight directly if you have volunteered there before
and want to do the door for one of the BOTMC shows.

At the String Band Contest, Saturday daytime: We need
people to help set up the event starting at 8:15 AM
(!) and people to help with teardown when it's all
over (3 or 4-ish). You don't have to bring your own
tools for this, but it is physical work.  We need
someone with a pickup to make a run to the Ecology
Center with folding chairs before and after the event.
 

During the contest, we also need band wranglers, who
preferably know most musicians by sight but won't be
performing themselves.  We need helpers at the
instrument check -- this involves lifting.  Finally,
we need general help-outers to buy the judges their
lunch and hand out pint glasses to participants and
anything else that comes up during the event.

At Ashkenaz Saturday night: We need one person to help
our food coordinator clean up from feeding the band.

At the Jazz School, Sunday daytime: We need two people
to help "man the desk," keep everything running
smoothly, and make sure we leave the space tidy after
the workshops.  You should be taking one workshop (or
none).

At Jupiter, Sunday afternoon: We need people to take
shifts watching the instrument case check.
