Hi all,
I am so excited! This is going to be a wonderful week and I hope you
will be able to be part of it. Here's the latest:
Workshops:
There's still room in most of the workshops, except for the vocal
workshop with Ginny & Tracy which is full. This is a chance to take a
small-scale workshop with some truly inspiring and inspired teachers
and players! The other workshops include: banjo with John Cohen,
banjo with Mike Seeger, song fiddle with Tracy Schwarz, fiddle with
Hank Bradley, plus 3 beginning-level workshops: fiddle w. Cathie
Whitesides, banjo w. Candy Goldman, and guitar with Allegra Yellin.
The beginning-level teachers are all very fun-loving and patient
teachers, offering a terrific chance to get started playing old time
music.
Workshops are on Sunday, between 11 and 2:30 (2 different slots) at the
Jazzschool in downtown Berkeley. All the reg. info is at
http://www.berkeleyoldtimemusic.org/scheduleWorkshops.html
Concerts and Dance:
The NLCR concert on Friday is sold out. So, I hope everyone you know
already has got a ticket.
There are still tickets available for the Thurs. show at the Freight,
w. Ginny Hawker, Hank Bradley & Jody Stecher, and the Mercury Dimes.
That show may sell out as well so you might want to get advance
tickets.
Tickets are also still available for the Sat. night dance at Ashkenaz
with Adam Rose & Original Sinners, Uncle Wiggly, and Squirrelly String
Band. You can buy advance tickets but there should be plenty available
at the door.
To buy tickets for these events, follow the links that are here:

Contest:
We have 25 bands signed up! So, pre-registration has closed. However,
there generally are some no-shows, so if you want to enter your band,
come to the Berkeley Farmer's Market on Sat. AM between 10 and 11, and
see if any slots have opened up. The contest starts promptly at 11
with the Youth Showcase, followed immediately by the regular contest.
We have a lot of great bands signed up, plus some unusual stuff (Greek
band!). Admission is free, and there's no entry fee. Come on down,
buy some organic vegetables at the Farmer's Market, and enjoy the
music! Jamming in the park, too!
Cabaret:
Cabaret takes place at 3 PM on Sunday at the Jupiter, in downtown
Berkeley -- right around the corner from where the workshops are
happening. Signups are on SATURDAY at the Contest.
Volunteers:
Some volunteer slots are still open.
Contest setup, Sat. 8 am
Contest instrument check, Sat. 1-3
Contest teardown, Sat. end of contest (which is sometime between 3 and
4) till done
Ashkenaz, Sat. PM, one for merch table
Cabaret instrument check, Sunday 5-7:15
Doing any of these jobs will earn you free admission (a "comp") to
either the Thursday show at the Freight or the dance on Saturday night
at Ashkenaz (note that if you do the merch table at the dance, that is
your comp).
To volunteer, please send an email to Amy Hofer: hoferamy at yahoo. com
That's it for now!
ALL the above info and more at:

See you soon!
Suzy Thompson
