The Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention still needs
volunteers for the contest on Saturday, Sept 17; the
dance at Ashkenaz that same night; and the cabaret at
Jupiter on Sunday the 18th. Admission offered in
exchange!

Thanks so much to everyone who's already volunteered!

ORIGINAL MESSAGE (sent Aug 27) - some of these positions are filled:

Hi folks,

The Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention seeks
volunteers to help out at the festival! Mark your
calendars, if you haven't already, for the weekend of
September 15-18, and check out our website at
www.berkeleyoldtimemusic.org for more info about the
contest, concerts, workshops, cabaret, and square
dance. And read on if you'd like to volunteer...

Here's the deal: Volunteers will receive free
admission to one paying event of their choice. If
you're volunteering at a paying event, then that's the
one you get free admission to. I'd like to involve as
many people as possible, so I'll assign one job per
person till we see if anything's left over.

To volunteer, please send me: your name, email, phone,
job preference (see below), and which show you want to
be put on the guest list for.

I hope I'm not sending too many duplicates of this
email, but I'm trying to spread the word that the
festival is accessible to everyone, cash or no.
Please help me by forwarding this email to anyone you
think might be interested in volunteering, or who
wouldn't try square dancing unless it was free, etc.

Thanks in advance,
Amy Hofer

Volunteer Job Posistions Available:

At the Freight & Salvage on Thursday and Friday
nights, and at Ashkenaz on Saturday night, we need
volunteers to sell CDs for the bands and encourage
people to sign the BOTMC mailing list; also, at the
Freight, we can use a hand-stamper at the door for
both nights.

For Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, we need
teams of 2 people to bring in and clean up dinner for
the performers and generally act as green room hosts,
making sure that it has refreshments and stays
presentable.

For the contest on Saturday, we'll need someone with a
pickup who can go to the Ecology Center at 8:00 AM (!)
to help bring chairs to the park. We need 3
additional volunteers to then be at the park at 8:15
to help with setup. Likewise, for teardown after the
contest (which could be as late as 4 pm, depending on
how long the contest takes), we need 3 helpers plus
one person with a pickup to haul the chairs back. You
don't have to bring your own tools for this, but it is
physical work.

During the contest itself, we'll need two band
wranglers to make sure that the contestants are "on
deck" on time. They should know most people in the
contest by sight, and ideally not be entering the
contest themselves.

We'll also need people to watch the instrument check,
in two shifts of two people each.

We need two general help-outers, to give contestants
their pint glasses as they leave the stage, get the
judges' lunch, and any other tasks as they come up.

Kenny Hall will be leading a jam in the park while the
contest is going on, and we will need one or two
volunteers to make sure that that runs smoothly and
Kenny has everything he needs. This can be a player
or non-player, but probably not a contestant.

At the cabaret on Sunday, we will need people to watch
the instrument check and to assist our stage managers.
